So what if you can freeze your accounts. Before you know it, your ID has been stolen and things charged to you and the only way you find out is by checking the 3 credit reporting agencies, which you can do for free once a year. Then you see things turned in to the collection agencies. Guess what, you already been shafted and your credit messed up.
Putting a freeze on your accounts only stops them from getting more. I've seen 3 people get 30 days in jail and $1200 fine, big deal if they think this is going to hurt the thieves. They need to put a minimum prison sentence of at least 5 years plus 1 day for this kind of theft. At least with 5yrs + 1 day they will be locked up for the 5 years.
The police departments don't have the funds to investigate this kind of crime, so what gets done.
