I know there have been abuses in the system, but once you get injured on the job as I have, resulting in a 40% disability to both hands with the prospect of total disability in two years if I don't stop working, and are told that your hands are only worth $11,050, then maybe you'll feel differently. Oh yes, and even though you want to keep your medical open (which is why you take the paltry sum), the insurer can refuse to pay for your medical.
