I don't know, but in defense of the patient, he may have been too "out of it" to use energy questioning his physician. Unfortunately, this is the problem with many senior patients who die every year from drug overdoses. They no longer have the capability to watch out for themselves and there is no one close enough in their life to watch out for them. The man clearly was in a lot of pain - enough that they considered it may have been suicide.
