This all feels like protectionism - liberal and conservative - crying wolf at any sign of effort. Illegal immigrants aren't a problem; they're a safety net for businesses facing crippling union strikes and contracts. Our two largest stakeholders - consumers and capitalists - need them. And while workers comp is inefficient, sale or cancellation cower in the face of the operational overhaul it needs, to extract its full value for the benefit of the public. Government should take this opportunity to change the way they charge companies or place a limit on benefits until better controls can be implemented, so the abuses we all witness daily don't continue. That could relieve small business, attract the former insurers to compete again, and spur some taxable activity.
