Re: Can anyone vouche for Noodle, Smart Choice, Agent Secure

I used Agent Secure when starting up my agency. They had a different split and paid profit sharing that I did receive. The more you write the better care they take of you! Have you looked into E & O it took me 8 months to get my first policy. One other recommendation I have is get a partner. Tha...

Sorry but your plan will only work if you get an insurance license.

There is not enough commission to earn by a producer for most of us to consider looking to even try and place this type of account.

Re: Workers comp for janitorial services

Don't call your states insurance department. They have no idea which carriers have good rates for a certain line of business. You should be consulting your carriers.

Re: QuickBooks

Quickbooks will work well for expenses but you can end up messing your income statement and sales figures if you do both direct and agency bill. Possibly they have upgraded but using the 2008 and prior years it double booked income.

Most of us only use what carriers provide. Its just too darn expensive at 2.8% to 2.0 of premium.

Re: Why Would an Agency Retain Trust Account Service?

Every agency should have a seperate trust account. If you are using your head and set your clients up as direct bill and you wont need to hire an outside source! You will only use it to sweep client payments to carriers.

Re: The Big I

You can only be a member of the Big I if you are a member of your state agents association. They offer hard to place lines of coverage. I suppose if you chose to work only in those lines and built up a book over 300,000 you might be able to get a direct carrier appointment. Your average carrier will...

Re: Independent Agent Sub Producer Commission Structure

If this business were soo easy everyone would do it! I have been on my own for 15 years for Life & Health and 6 years ago I started my own P & C Agency. Yes I thought I deserved more than 50%. But I know know that was a reasonable split. There is a lot more to being in the insurance business...

Re: Fidelity Insurance Company Terminating Brokers. Fair?

As agents, we are responsible to attempt to be a profit center for our insurance companies we represent. Fidelity left Michigan 2 years ago with a 400% statewide loss ratio. We had a 0% loss ratio. We all have shock losses. Spread your account risk so if an area has a problem it won't become yours. ...

Optional Federal Charter

The NAIC should be the continued mechanism for uniformity in insurance regulation in the United States of America. Federalism will only create more problems than solve.

Forms Boss

I believe I have used forms boss for about 10 years, since it was a dos based program. I was an off site producer for another agency then. It has come a long way and takes care of most basic management items. (I have the management option). For the price it is a very good investment. I know there ar...
