Re: Condo Associations

In CA its Farmers with the coverages, the capacity and the price for HOAs. They fold in virtually everything and can provide ultrahigh limits for spectacular prices. BTW, if you don't have the political in at HOAs and have to cobble together what others provide in their standard form, its not worth ...

Re: United Specialty Insurance

They are an insurance company. See www.ambest.com for rating, etc. Its possible that they might front for a risk retention group but as RRG's are limited vehicles its unlikely. Its more likely that they would issue for a risk purchasing group. Last, USIC writes through MGA's. To find out the details...

A facility maintenance account question

What I'm about to ask I think is a case of my seeing the forest too clearly and missing the trees. I'll be interested in the opinions of other readers as this forest is just getting more prominent. I have an account which performs routine janitorial maintenance work for commercial facilities. One of...

Re: High deductible self insured Work Comp

I haven't seen anyone address the fact that you must carry on your balance sheet the liabilities incurred for claims within the self insured layer. The premium savings can be substantial but LOC's and carrying those liabilities can impact your credit rating as well as other issues making business fi...

Re: First American Specialty Insurance

Let's see - these things are "worth mentioning:"
1- They are owned by mortgage company
2- They are Best rated A-, 7
3- Best gives them a Negative outlook [affirmed last week]

Curious what you would write with them and, yes, I would surmise that their underwriting is less than rigorous.

Re: Captive Agent wants to have wife open an IA.

Scoutmaster, so sorry to be so late in responding to your message of 2-12. First, Its my understanding that State Farm and Allstate handle the captive situation differently than Farmers. While Farmers does permit you to write business elsewhere that they cannot write, State Farm and Allstate do not....

Ind Agency

I don't know why this is of so much concern to you. As a wholesaler I work with a ton of Farmers agents as clients and most have separate sidebar agencies set up to handle business that Farmers won't write. Its totally not unusual, but it is common sense.....and they run it themselves.

Huh?

Admittedly I am a wholesaler who does not usually work with BOPs, but aren't BOPs usually relegated to on-site coverage and not used for mobile risks? If that is true, then unless your sightseeing risk is virtual like Star Tours at Disneyland, it would seem that a BOP is wholly inappropriate.

Work Comp

Just noticed that Benchmark has a partner, The Builders Association Self-Insurers Fund [ http://www.basif.com/ ] that writes self-insured Workers Comp for the constuction industry. Another partner, Fidelity Group Insurance Professionals LLC, ostensibly writes both group and P&C insurance, the la...

Interesting

What types of commercial construction are you seeing them insuring?
If grocery stores, that seems to be their bag due to their food industry emphasis.

Yup

That is specifically why I asked if the developer owned a real estate agency. The real estate activity was the subject of the inquiry.

The separate real estate agency however, will qualify for both the Landy & Colony programs.

His Developer activities incl E&O would be covered elsewhere.

Jetskis

Any idea why they have a problem with jetskis?
Awfully helpful if you tell us which MGAs and markets declined so that we don't waste our time trying to figure that out.
Have you Googled "jetski insurance"? That often helps.

Its weird that lenders require Fire insurance and, when flood plained, Flood insurance.....BUT...... they do not require Earthquake insurance. If lenders require Fire & Flood insurance because of "affordability" they are sort of screwing themselves because if they were logical and requ...
