Re: Fees on Admitted Market
How does your State's law read? In Texas, we are allowed to charge a "reasonable fee" as long as we have a signed Disclosure Statement signed prior to binding coverage. This fee is something that we acknowledge during the quote process and is NEVER hidden or "slid" into the deal....

Pretty simple - just need to call their regional marketing rep and they should be able to help you.

Re: 101 Sales and Marketing Ideas for Insurance Agents
BEst thing to do is ASK for the sale....... If you give personal lines quotes on the phone, we increased our close ratio by asking FIVE words: Have you got a pencil?? You would be surprised when you ask this question, the person on the other end of the call will say something like: "Uhhhhhh, wa...

Re: Taxi Cab Accounnt - 70 Units - Florida (Miami Area)
Does FLorida have an "assigned risk plan" or JUA for automobile insurance?? The taxi business is a "high touch" account as they are always substituting vehicles and adding/deleting drivers...not to mention minor claims. We have several taxi accounts and the owners are ALWAYS shop...

Re: Looking to buy used CPCU study materials
After all, you have to keep the cash flow coming in! Talk about future residuals! It's like the CIC course(s) - once you get the designation, you have to keep going back to MONITOR thae class for the same amount of tuition just to keep that cash coming in....overlooking the fact that the material ma...

Re: Charging Broker Fees in FL, TX, and NY
Since there are NO "retail" brokers in Texas, we call them AGENCY FEES. The law states that we are allowed to charge a reasonable fee - the thought being that there are some things that aren't covered by commission - overnight mailing, postage, extra mail expense, fax costs, printing costs...

Re: P&C independent agent looking for Life contract
Why not hook up with a Life agent after you get your license? Let them do all the chasing and appointment setting
and you get paid for THEIR work.
It works for me, and I can concentrate on the P&C business....and the customer doesn't care because you are trying to
do what's best for them.

Re: Personal lines question: HO3 v. DP3
I think that all you need to do is look the definition in a Webster's Dictionary.
HOMEOWNER does NOT equal TENANT OCCUPIED.......end of story.
If the current company will NOT make the change to a DP3, I am SURE that there are other companies that will.

Re: I'm Considering Opening an Independent Insurance Agency
http://www.smartchoiceagents.com/ You might check with these guys. They started out originally as a source for captive agents that turned independent. They get you the markets without a volume commitment, and they endup getting about a third of your written commission, but, YOU own the business! Onc...

Re: Marketing Yourself As An Expert
Depending in the size of your community, you can contact your local TV or radio station and develop a relationship with their "investigative reporter." Then, anytime that something BIG in the industry comes up, call the reporter and tell them. I have done this on several occasions and now,...

Re: Brooke Insurance Imploding... Opportunity?
Seems that the franchises do not OWN their book of business - so, they can't legally sell it. I hear from some marketing reps that have contracts with Brooke that they (the parent) are supposed to be sending letters of release - but the franchises haven't gotten them yet, haven't been paid in a mont...

Re: WHO TAKES CASH AND DOES NOT REQUIRE MONEY ORDERS?
In my agency, we take cash and bank cards (with an added surcharge for convenience) and do NOT take personal checks made payable to the agency. In the past, I have been burned by folks giving a check on a closed account or stopping payment on a check. We did what we could do to collect and were not ...

Re: GAs for Preferred Truckers Programs
Rough Notes puts out an annual publication titled The Insurance Marketplace which is a GREAT source for markets. Not being in CA myself, you might try joining one of your State insurance associations such as the Latin American Agents Alliance or the Alliance of Insurance Agents and Brokers.

It really depends on WHERE you live - not ALL GAs write in ALL States.
