Re: 101 Sales and Marketing Ideas for Insurance Agents

Is Rainmaker the new Scott around here? :)

Come to think of it, has anyone seen Scott lately? Did he perhaps change his name to David and open a new company? :)

Re: How do agents handle credit scoring?

NY does not allow any personal auto carrier to re-profile the credit on renewal - except for an 'upgrade' to a better tier/program. This was the 'deal' legislators cut with the insurance industry when NY allowed credit profiling for Personal Auto insurance in NY. All of the other underwriting consi...

Re: CA Agent Needed

Are you aware that GEICO is starting to appoint local agents? Yep, that's right.

Do you think you'll need to change your talking points because of that? You should at least be aware of it in case a prospect brings it up.

Re: Farmers Insurance

I'm curious. If I quit Farmers, as an independent, can I get an appointment with 21st Century? Depends which rate filing you want to sell. There are independent agents appointed with a lot of the 21st Century family of companies. Don't know how easy it is to get an appointment since the switch to F...

Re: Final Expense Insurance

Not super-lucrative, but can be a nice bonus. Here are some things you'll probably end up discussing with people if you want them to do anything other than just sign some sort of a credit card add-on contract: Is Funeral Insurance For You . Here's another one discussing the benefits from the agent s...

Re: Castle Inspections / High value inspections in general

Just so we're all on the same page here, builders who work on fixing properties instead of building new construction for home builders will charge more to people they know are rich. If you own a $1-2MM house, you'll pay more for the exact same work than someone with a less expensive house. So, repla...

Re: Best Sub-Standard Carriers

Would a solution possibly be to "individually" quote each driver on a separate policy, or is that not recommended/ethical? Well, besides not being recommended or ethical... it's also a bad idea. First, the insured usually has to certify that they're listing all household drivers with regu...

Re: Pricing an agency to buy

jctwindad, you have a small error in your definition of EBITDA: it's earnings before interest , taxes, depreciation and amortization, not "income taxes..." Also, when you refer to 4-7 times EBITDA, do you mean GAAP (current fiscal year) EBITDA or lifetime EBITDA? Where does the 4-7 X guide...

Re: How do I improve my credit score?

Credit repair companies are almost universally scams, some criminally so. A not-for-profit credit counseling agency can help you, but as previous posters have mentioned, no company or organization has any secrets to getting better credit. You can find anything they'll tell you all by yourself with a...

Re: Personal Time Off (PTO) vs Vacation & Sick Time

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that our company probably has one of the best PTO policies around. I don't expect other companies to be this liberal, but I can tell you that people around here work really hard because of it. From hire date to first anniversary, we accumulate 5.23 hours per pay...

Re: Calling non-pay clients... a good idea or an E&O exposure?

I have to bet that no one has ever successfully sued for this specific reason. They may have recovered damages for something similar, but I bet it would be a case where the agency really did create a "reasonable expectation" that this was part of their service. I would imagine that if you ...

Re: Getting in the door.

I'm not an insurance or business expert by any means, but before settling on a market segment to bullseye, would it make sense to do a small market survey first? If you can find a market that is under-served, or where people are not happy and are looking to make a change, and it is in your area of e...
