Re: Preparing for the New York State brokers' license exam

I suggest you buy the book entitled "Real Estate Broker Exam: The Complete Preparation Guide." It provides information and practice questions covering various brokers' practices and principles. Good luck. :)

Re: Herbalife

Not a big fan of it. Leave out the scam talk, Herbalife is plain bad for you. It is not good for kidneys, there is nothing natural about it, it is loaded with fillers.

Re: Where to locate a NEW branch?

Have you tried using Google Maps? Kiddin. I think the online directory of Association of Online Insurance Agents (AOIA) would be helpful. It provides listings of agencies nationwide. Not quite sure if their database is updated and comprehensive.

Re: Identity Theft Insurance

Some companies now include identity theft insurance as part of their homeowners’ insurance policy. Others sell it as either a stand-alone policy or as an endorsement or rider to a homeowners or renters insurance policy. There's an informative article on this site about identity theft insurance. I su...

Re: Facebook

I've been using Facebook PPC for quite some now, and it has brought leads and conversions. It may be a bit costly, but what I like most about it is that the ads are targeted. You basically can choose the people who you want to target. I prefer it over Google Adwords, actually. It is also extremely e...

Re: How do you ask for a referral?

Based on my own experience, I usually got referrals when I contact clients to tell them their policy has been issued. They are usually pleased with the news so I ask them to give at least two other names and numbers of people I can contact. They are usually willing to give some info.

Re: Commission or Contingency

I agree with AgencyEquity. Contingencies are paid based on the volume of business placed with a particular insurance company. The fact that a broker has a contingency-type contract with a specific insurance company can be of great value to the insured resulting in a lower price for the insured.

Re: Where to order MVR's?

Try the Database MVRs of CoreLogic. They provide driving records from all 50 U.S. states. It's reliable enough.

Re: Android Applications/Insurance Related

There are quite a number of insurance-related Android applications that can be downloaded for free online. There are paid ones too. I've seen a long list at androidzoom.com/free_android_applications/Insurance - most of them are designed to help agents and provide insurance resources.

We've been using Ebix/VitalSigns and satisfied with it. It aggregates all the ratings and financial data and creates a report showing a carrier's financial strength, saving us time.

You can contact insurance.ca.gov. Try asking for a list of carriers. You can also post general questions or inquiries to insurance-related issues there.

Re: Energy Savings Insurance (ESI)

I think there's a need for such insurance. In fact, energy savings insurance was first offered many many years ago, but failed to make impact in the energy efficiency marketplace because most of the work was being done in the market by large energy service companies (ESCOs).
