Cloyce Anders, Louise Canter Elected to IIAA Officer Posts

Independent Insurance Agents of America’s (IIAA) National Board of State Directors confirmed W. Cloyce Anders as the association’s president-elect and elected Louise “Bebe” C. Canter, CPCU, ARM vice-president.

The board nominated Anders and Canter, members of IIAA’s Executive Committee, at its mid-year meeting last week.

Anders, president of VFIS of North Carolina, Raleigh, N.C., and Anders, Ireland & Marshall, Inc., Raleigh, N.C. was elected to the executive committee in September 1997. He also is a managing partner of Independent Agency Services, LLC, Durham, N.C.

Canter, senior vice president of Patterson/Smith Associates, Falls Church, Va., was elected to the executive committee in September 1998. She is the first woman elected to IIAA’s top leadership panel.

Anders, if approved by the membership, and Canter will assume their new posts at IIAA’s Hawaii InfoXchange Oct. 27- 30 in Honolulu. Anders and current President-Elect Thomas B. Ahart, CPCU, AAI, are to be sworn in as president-elect and president, respectively during the Hawaii InfoXchange’s closing general session.

Anders has been involved with IIAA on both the state and national levels. He was president of Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina (IIANC) from 1989-90, and represented the state on IIAA’s National Board of State Directors from 1992 to 1997. He has served on numerous committees at both the state and national levels.

Anders was honored with a 2000 Presidential Citation by then-IIAA President William M. Houston, CPCU, ARM for his work with IIAA’s errors and omissions provider, and by his state association as Agent of the Year, Young Agent of the Year, Educator of the Year and Committee Chairman of the Year. Anders is a graduate of East Carolina University. He and his wife, Carole, reside in Raleigh.

Canter has also been involved with the association on every level, having served the Metropolitan Washington Association of Independent Insurance Agents (MWAIIA) in many capacities, including state national director and president. She also served as chairman of the Southern Agents Conference and a member of the IIAA Large Agents Committee. Canter is a graduate of Fordham University. She resides in Bethesda, Md., with her husband, Bob.
