Los Angeles All Industry Day Highlights Education, Emerging Trends

By | December 5, 2005

Issues including low cost auto insurance, the changing environment of international insurance and successfully reducing injuries and workers’ compensation costs were among the topics discussed at the annual CPCU All Industry Day in Los Angeles.

According to Jim Brown of AMIM of Allianz Global Risks U.S., “The event went very well and was attended by approximately 300. The goal of the meeting was to provide a day of education and networking, as well as to promote ethics and recognize the new designee class of 2005. Exhibitors also were on hand promoting products and services of interest to the insurance industry.”

Along with the above-mentioned sessions, the day included a luncheon speaker, Steve Ford, son of former President Gerald R. Ford and First Lady Betty Ford. “He spoke about his experiences as ‘first son,’ the events leading up to his father becoming president and the importance of integrity in everyday life,” Brown said. “He also spoke about making a difference in the lives of others by giving of yourself.” It was Ford’s father who stepped into a precarious situation when he replaced President Richard M. Nixon, who resigned as a result of Watergate. The elder Ford went on to lose a close election to President Jimmy Carter in 1976.

According to Brown, the goal of All Industry Day seminars were to educate the attendees on the current trends in the areas of low cost auto, workplace injury prevention and international insurance.

“Other seminars dealt with proper construction and usage of policy terms and conditions, and responding to excess policy limit demands,” Brown said. Another seminar discussed the relatively new area of “transactional facilitation” insurance.

The day also included several honors and awards for some of the attendees.

The CPCU designation was conferred on the class of 2005 by Sandy Masters, Western Region Marketing Direction for the American Institute of CPCU. Pat Rosandich received the Rie R. Sharp Insurance Person of the Year award for 2004, and Jim Brown received the same award for 2005.

The All Industry Day was held Nov. 9 at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles.

The next Los Angeles CPCU Chapter Luncheon meeting will be a joint meeting with the California El Camino CPCU Chapter at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, Calif., on Dec. 8.
