Allstate Announces Expansion Plans in Northeast

The Northbrook, Ill.,-based Allstate Insurance Company recently announced its plans to appoint hundreds of additional insurance agents in several Northeastern states.

In Massachusetts, Allstate is seeking to appoint approximately 130 new agents by the end of next year. The expansion is in response to what the company describes as an increasing demand in the Bay State. Allstate says it is seeing more demand for its products, especially auto insurance policies.

Allstate entered the Massachusetts market in 2008 after Gov. Deval Patrick introduced managed competition in the auto insurance market that year. The company said it opened its first Massachusetts office in October 2012 and now has 19 locations with 18 agency owners in the state.

Of the 130 new agents Allstate plans to appoint in Massachusetts, 30 appointments will be agency owners, with the remaining 100 as licensed sales producers.

“Allstate opened its first brick and mortar location in Massachusetts last October and has seen increasing demand since then. We target cities and areas that show growth as a part of Allstate’s broader strategy to expand our presence in Massachusetts,” said Ed Norcia, Allstate’s Northeast region strategic deployment leader.

“We are aggressively targeting qualified professionals. If they don’t have an insurance background, we’ll provide them with comprehensive education and the resources to help them get off to a solid start,” Norcia said.

Allstate also recently announced it is planning to hire new insurance agents in Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Maine, Rhode Island and New Hampshire. The insurer would hire approximately 455 new agents in these five states over the next year, according to the announcement.

Allstate plans to appoint approximately 305 new insurance agents in Pennsylvania over the next year. Of those 305 insurance agents, 80 appointments will be agency owners, with the remaining 225 as licensed sales producers.

Allstate’s Pennsylvania recruiting goals are segmented by area as follows: 150 total in Philadelphia – Five County; 35 in Northeastern Pennsylvania; 40 in Central Pennsylvania; and 80 in Western Pennsylvania.

In Connecticut, Allstate is planning to appoint more than 75 new insurance agents over the next year. Of those 75 insurance agents, 25 appointments will be agency owners, with the remaining 50 as licensed sales producers.

Allstate is also looking to expand in Maine. The insurer plans to appoint more than 20 new insurance agents in the Pine Tree State over the next year. Of those 20 insurance agents, five appointments will be agency owners, with the remaining 15 as licensed sales producers.

In Rhode Island, Allstate plans to appoint more than 30 new insurance agents over the next year. Of those 30 insurance agents, 10 appointments will be agency owners, with the remaining 20 as licensed sales producers.

And in New Hampshire, the insurer plans to appoint some 25 new insurance agents over the next year. Of those 25 insurance agents, 10 appointments will be agency owners, with the remaining 15 as licensed sales producers.

Allstate said it is seeking agency owners who are mid-career, mid-level managers who want to own and operate their own business.

Candidates interested in becoming an Allstate agency owner need a minimum of $50,000 of liquid capital to invest in their agency.
