Environmental risk identification in the old and gas patch has been studied for years. unfortunately, these studies result in one important conclusion. There is not enough capacity in the environmentalinsurance market place. In fact the entire insurance marketplace has not kept up with the demands of risk managers, plaintiff’s, defendents, governmental agencies and other’s in need of high limits of insurance. Large oil and gas concerns, pharmacuticals, utilities, and the other high hazard concerns will continually look toward internal financing and financial engineering to contain the risk to their shareholder. And as the market does not repond to limit demands, more and more will go this route. From a limit and coverage standpoint, the market is at least 40 years behind the times.
