Good article. I’ve heard this so many times over the past 40 years that if I had a dollar…”Just give me an apples to apples quote. Any changes will be made by endorsement.” Changes never seem to come!

Another good one is binding the business and then showing up with a huge lists of forms that insured must have. Trouble is many times the forms are another carriers proprietary forms that only they can use. The solution: Just manuscript them! Full disclosure is the only way to go when presenting an account. Why do so many agents and brokers hold back? Perhaps it is the insured who does not provide the information but I wonder.

Great comments. If a client asks me for Apples to Apples quote, I simply say, “If your looking for the same coverage you have now, then you don’t need me. Simply go back to your agent and ask them to shop. I would be happy to help you solve a problem, help fill a gap, or simply help you better understand the coverage you enjoy.” Most of the time, the client walks away… but I saved the time of having them walk away after I have done all the work. The ones who do stay, will bind the coverage.

Can I ask if that’s commercial or personal accounts? (I think that’s a great way to market yourself.)
