State Employee Charged with Two Counts

Shawanna L. Johnson, 29, an employee with the California Department of Health Services was charged with two felony counts of insurance fraud. According to the CDI Criminal Investigations Branch’s Fraud Division investigators, Johnson allegedly reported to the Sacramento Police Department that her 1997 Honda Civic was stolen. On the same day, Johnson also purportedly reported the claim to Progressive Insurance Company.

The investigation revealed Johnson was supposedly having financial problems and allegedly told friends she was going to burn her car. When confronted by Progressive Insurance Company on the allegations, Johnson withdrew her claim.

If convicted, Johnson could face up to five years in state prison and/or a maximum fine of $50,000.
