Jim Shevlin has been named assistant vice president and regional business development manager for ACE USA’s Southeast Region. ACE USA is headquartered in Philadelphia, Pa. Based in Atlanta, Shevlin will manage distribution, product sales and marketing and producer relationships in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and Florida.
Shevlin most recently managed sales and marketing for ACE Select Markets, the specialty personal lines division of ACE USA. He joined ACE in 2002 as a member of the management team responsible for overseeing sales and account management for a division that marketed personal insurance products to Fortune 1000 clients.
Prior to joining ACE, Shevlin held senior business development and marketing positions with MetLife, AIG, Allmerica Financial and Continental Insurance/CNA Financial. He also has served on several insurance industry association boards, most notably the International Mass Marketing Association and Mass Marketing Insurance Institute.
ACE USA is the U.S.-based retail operating division of The ACE Group of Companies, headed by ACE Limited. It provides insurance and reinsurance for a diverse group of clients worldwide.
Allen W. Nelson has joined Crawford & Company in Atlanta as senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary.
Nelson will be responsible for handling legal matters, overseeing the company’s Legal Department and performing the duties of corporate secretary.
Nelson was formerly with BellSouth Corp., where he most recently served as chief compliance counsel.
Prior to joining BellSouth, Nelson practiced law with Hawkins & Parnell as well as Troutman, Sanders, Lockerman & Ashmore; both firms are located in Atlanta. Nelson is a co-inventor of the “Integrated Governance Process,” for which a patent is pending.
Anna M. Hicks has been named assistant vice president of Harleysville Insurance’s Southeast claims service center. She is responsible for directing all activities of Harleyville’s Nashville, Tenn., claims center.
Hicks was previously assistant vice president of life/long-term care for CNA Insurance. During her 22 years at CNA Hicks held the positions of assistant vice president of workers’ compensation and general liability; assistant vice president of customer service, in which she served as a liaison between various underwriting branches and the claims service center; and claims supervisor. She has 27 years of insurance industry experience.

Bill Bingham was elected president of the Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina during the IIANC’s annual convention in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Bingham is president of The Lake Agency in Cornelius, N.C. Bingham most recently served as the president-elect of the association. He has served on numerous committees for the Association, and has been heavily involved in the North Carolina Political Action Committee.

Gastineau was recognized as the North Carolina agent who has demonstrated commitment and performance for his/her agency, association, industry, community and family. Gastineau chaired the IIANC Insurance Advisory Committee and has held a number of other insurance industry posts including IIANC committees and has been instrumental in the direction of the association. A veteran of the insurance industry, Gastineau is currently an owner of Providence Insurance Agency in Raleigh.
DeAndre Salter, will head Professional Risk Solutions’ new full service office in Fort Myers, Fla. The new office will focus on Southeast business, especially in Florida, Georgia and Virginia.

Salter was formerly a vice president with Crum & Forster. In that position, he developed, launched and managed their directors and officers business; established underwriting guidelines, and pricing and rating formulae for the division to achieve profitability; and was responsible for securing reinsurance for multiple product lines.
Before joining Crum & Forster, Salter was an assistant vice president in the Executive Protection Practice of the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies. He had global responsibility for the practice’s first party products. He also conducted research into market conditions and other factors that would affect the introduction and success of emerging products.
Earlier, Salter served as regional D&O underwriting manager for CNA Financial Insurance, where he expanded his territory into the western United States.
