NYSID To Hold Forums on Impact of Sept. 11

The New York State Insurance Department will hold state-wide forums to assess the impact of Sept. 11 on the insurance marketplace, including the availability and adequacy of coverage to homeowners, small businesses and large commercial risks.

The NYSID announced the first three will be held on Long Island, in Manhattan, and in Albany, and gave the following details:

— Long Island – Town Pavilion, 1 Washington St. Hempstead, NY 11550 – 516-812-3460 – Wed. February 20th, 4-6pm. RSVP Date: 2/19/02
— Manhattan – NYS Ins. Dept. 25 Beaver St. 5th Floor NYC, NY – 212-480-5262 – Thurs. February 21st – 1:30-4pm. RSVP Date: 2/20/02-
— Albany – Legislative Office Building, Hearing Room A, Albany, NY – 518-474-4567 – Mon. February 25th 11am-1pm. RSVP Date: 2/22/02

The announcement stated that, “The forums are open to the public. The Department is especially interested in the views of consumers, business owners, insurance agents and brokers, and those who are actively involved in purchasing or procuring insurance coverages for small businesses.”

“Attendees are asked to confirm their attendance by calling Ellen Wenz at 212-480-5262 in New York City by the RSVP date provided. Individuals who want to give oral testimony must confirm attendance. Oral testimony will be allowed up to 5 minutes. Written submissions may be made at the forum. The Department encourages submission of written testimony to be added to the official record. Written testimony should include, but not be limited to, the following topics:
— The availability of coverage, including the adequacy of coverages and coverage limits;
— Use of exclusions or other provisions limiting coverages or risk transfer; ยท
— Changes and adjustments in premiums on insurance policies; and
— The role of reinsurance in current market dynamics.
