The New York State Insurance Department announced the arrest of Eugene Turner and Marcus Jefferson, both of Syracuse, following an investigation into a “staged accident” by the two men.
They allegedly rented a U-haul truck for the purpose of an alibi, said the NYSID’s bulletin. “After renting the truck they parked it and purposely drove a 1986 Chevy Blazer, owned by Turner, into a dumpster on several occasions causing $1,800 worth of damages to this vehicle. They reported that the vehicle owned by Eugene Turner was struck in an accident by the rented U-haul and submitted damage estimates to Republic Western Insurance Company in an attempt to split this insurance money between them.”
“A joint investigation by the Department’s Frauds Bureau and the Syracuse Police Department led to the arrest of both parties for insurance fraud in the 4th degree and falsifying business records in the 1st on June 11, 2002. Both defendants were issued appearance tickets and are to appear in City of Syracuse Criminal Court at a later date as resulted in their arrests,” the announcement concluded.
