The Professional Insurance Agents of New York State Inc. have named Peter Demetriou, president of the New Windsor Insurance Agency in Hempstead, as “Committee Chair of the Year ” at the association’s annual business meeting.
“This award recognizes the time and effort agent volunteers give to help guide the association and implement programs to benefit its members. Demetriou was honored for his work as chair of the Industry Liaison Committee,” said the announcement.
“Throughout his career, Peter Demetriou has demonstrated a deep level of dedication to our industry. He has earned the respect and trust from his colleagues and customers that he truly deserves,” stated PIANY president David Isenberg. “PIANY is proud to present him with this award.”
Demetriou has been a PIANY member since 1970, and is active in the association. In addition to serving as chairperson of the Industry Liaison Committee, he is a member of the Long Island Regional Awareness Program and Hudson Valley RAP Committees. He’s also on the board of directors of the Council of Insurance Brokers of Greater New York, and is a member of the Professional Insurance Wholesalers Association of New York State Inc.
Demetriou was awarded the Louis A. Morelli Memorial Award in 2000, which is “presented to an individual who shows exemplary contributions to insurance professionalism and has a reputation for working toward the betterment of the agency system and for the growth of the association. It is given in memory of PIANY honorary director Lou Morelli,” the bulletin concluded.
