In a show of support for the New York Insurance Department’s efforts promoting “Get Smart About Insurance Week,” the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of New York Inc. hosted Superintendent of Insurance Gregory V. Serio during his recent visit to Syracuse, where he encouraged Central New Yorkers to review their homeowners and renter’s insurance policies.
The trade association, which represents more than 1,900 independent insurance agencies and brokerages in the state, as well as their 19,000 employees, said its participation in “Get Smart About Insurance Week” was consistent with the daily counsel and advice its members provide their clients.
“Our members serve on the frontlines of the insurance industry. They interact at a personal level with consumers seeking to protect their autos, homes and businesses,” stated IIABNY Secretary-Treasurer Mark J. Hagan during a news conference held at the association’s Syracuse office. “So it is consistent with their role as independent agents and brokers to send the message to consumers of the importance of reviewing their insurance policies to ensure they remain adequately protected. This is especially important at this time of the year when winter weather in Central New York can cause considerable property damage.”
The national “Get Smart About Insurance Week” campaign is sponsored by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners to remind New Yorkers – and the rest of the country – of the importance of proper insurance coverage.
