Karen Barone, Virginia product manager for Drive Insurance from Progressive recently presented Tom Welch, president of the Independent Insurance Agents of Virginia, with a check for $25,000, as part of a $50,000 commitment to IIAV’s Insurance Career Institute Building Campaign.
“We support the Institute’s goal of providing education to students interested in working in the insurance industry,” stated Barone. Drive is the number one writer of private passenger auto insurance through independent agents in Virginia.
“In our 100+ year history, this is one of our most ambitious efforts ever,” stated Tom Welch, “and it’s comforting to see both the member and industry interest in this project as we have raised almost $200,000 in a short period of time.”
The IIAV Insurance Career Institute is being built to encourage student interest in an insurance career. Initially the Institute will train individuals for the Customer Service Representative career track. Once this program is up and running, the plan is for the Institute to begin working on a program to train insurance producers.
Construction on the Institute started in late August, 2005 and the first class of students are expected to start the IIAV program in June of 2007.
