Maryland Attorney General J. Joseph Curran, Jr. reported that Deborah J. Odum of Annapolis, was sentenced for felony insurance fraud after having been found guilty on Nov. 21, following a jury trial in the Anne Arundel Circuit Court.
Odum, 51, is employed in the Imaging Department of the Maryland Automobile Insurance Fund. The Honorable Nancy Davis-Loomis sentenced Odum to probation before judgement, imposed a single weekend jail sentence to be served at the Anne Arundel County Detention Center and placed Odum on probation for one year. The sentencing follows a joint investigation by the Insurance Fraud Division of the Maryland Insurance Administration , the Maryland State Police and the Office of the Attorney General.
At trial, evidence was presented that Odum submitted fraudulent medical bills totaling approximately $2,000 to State Farm Insurance in support of an automobile accident claim. The submissions, fraudulently created medical bills and receipts purportedly from the Anne Arundel Medical Center and Maryland Primary Care Physicians, were reportedly faxed to State Farm by Odum from her office at the Maryland Automobile Insurance Fund.
