It is imposturous to sue companies that made lead paint over 50 years ago. The fact of the matter is that Sherwin Williams, for example, stopped using lead paint as in the \’50s and it was not mandated to do so until 1978. There are many things that create public nussainces that lawsuits dont get drawn over. Distillieries have made a public nussaince and kill many more people a year between car accidents, liver disease, and other alchohol related deaths. But noone is suing them. WHy is it okay to sue the paint companies? In many of these \”problem homes\” the problem stems not from the lead paint, but rather the homeowner and/or landord not keeping the house in good condition. Putting a coat of un leaded paint over the lead paint is usually sufficient if its not pealing. and if it is pealing — then obvious the house has not been upkept correctly since this paint was only available over 50 years ago. I think that more so than this being an act of public health, its municiple laziness for not enforcing the laws against slum landlords. Also, its a way for the state to waste more free money.

Good points. Well put except for the spelling.

However, I am a spelling freak so a few corrections:

It\’s preposterous not imposturous(correct spelling, but wrong word).
Nuisances not nussainces (could have been a typo but it was typed incorrectly twice).
    Alcohol, not alchohol.
    Peeling, not pealing.
    And it\’s municipal, not municiple.

Much easier to read when words are spelled properly. Phew, I feel much better now.

    Thanks :)

I understood everything you said, and agree with you completely.

Some folks can express intelligent thoughts; others can just correct the spelling…

Sorry about missing distilleries- too many typos to keep up with you see. Oh and good job Wes. I can\’t express an intelligent thought. I wasn\’t disagreeing; perhaps if I had been, I would have said more. Come to think of it, you didn\’t express any intelligent thoughts either. You just pointed out something I had already established. Must be nice to reiterate the intelligent thoughts I already had posted. Hmm… pot meet kettle :)

Spelling has got in the way of the real issue of lead poisoning. White lead paint manufacturers knew about the acute toxicity or their products before 1920 and continued to sell them for another 30 years. Consumers at the time had no knowledge of the hazardous time bomb they were bringing into their homes. Justly, the manufacturers have been found responsible, not innocent consumers or the state.
