While most Americans are preparing to add calories on Thanksgiving Day, people in Philadelphia are gearing up to burn off some.

Philadelphia Insurance Companies is sponsoring the 15th Annual Turkey Trot, a competitive five mile run attracting more than 300 runners on Thanksgiving morning.

The Turkey Trot was initiated 15 years ago as a family fun run to benefit Face to Face http://www.facetofacegermantown.org, a social service organization which provides various programs including soup kitchens, health centers, legal counseling, and a children’s summer camp.

Registration for the 2007 Turkey Trot will begin at 7:30 a.m. Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 22, at the foot of the Forbidden Trail in Fairmont Park, Chestnut Hill, Pa. Participants may also register online at http://www.lin-mark.com and are encouraged to donate one pair of gently used sneakers for the 2007 Sneaker Drive (kids or adult sizes).
