Less than two weeks after a devastating gasoline tanker fire in the city, Everett, Mass. officials are introducing a bill that could give local communities more control over dangerous cargo on their streets.
State Senator Anthony Galluccio says his bill being would allow communities to request that tanker trucks be banned from certain rotaries.
The tanker rolled over in the Sweetser traffic circle in the early morning hours of December 5. The resulting fire engulfed two multi-family homes and dozens of cars.
The truck driver was cited by state police for speeding.
Galluccio, a Democrat from Everett, is also calling for legislation that would hold truckers, fuel companies and others liable for damage or injury caused by tanker accidents.
