Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley wants workers’ compensation insurance rates to come down again in 2008.
Coakley says small businesses can’t afford to pay too much for the insurance.
The rates are set by the state insurance commissioner after hearing from the insurance companies.
Earlier this year, Coakley and the Patrick administration announced a 16.9 percent rate rollback. As part of the settlement, Coakley won the right to call another rate hearing in 2008, instead of in 2009.
Coakley says the rates should again come down and she and the State Rating Bureau, an arm of the Division of Insurance, are calling for the hearing.
Worker’s compensation insurance pays lost wages and compensation for on-the-job injuries.
