So men can’t have a private club and do good things for the public without being sued? Leave it alone people! Let men have our places to be with men. If women are all fired up to go out and do good deeds as part of an organization they can form their own organization, or form one that allows men and women; just leave the boys clubs alone.

I’m not for any type of discrimination, but how many men belong to the Red Hat Society? Maybe the cop in high heels in another posting.

How many men belong to NOW? Or, like was mentioned befor, the Red Hat Society (I have a red hat, but the message probably isn’t appropriate). Hey, let’s start the “Stir up Shtuff” Society & admit nobody.

I wonder how many men also belong to the various Junior Leagues and Women’s Garden Clubs? Men ought to sue if they can’t join those. I’m not sure what your red hat may say, but I bet I’d find it a lot funnier than any of the hats of the Red Hat Society!

Maybe I’m a throw back, or out of my mind, or just don’t fit the mold… but as a WOMAN – I firmly believe that men have the right to do their own thing once in a while without some outspoken, over bearing, but-insky sticking their nose in where it doesn’t belong just to prove a point.

So…this and many other institutions have to bow down to women who want to get in touch with their “masculine” side? GMAB!! Go out and start your own “society”.

For &$#* sake, a 74 year old woman! Hasn’t she seen enough in her lifetime to recognize what all this gender neutral rhetoric has done to our society?

Of course, she still probably wants men to hold the door open, help her with her chair, pick up the tab, bring her flowers, champion her cause, and treat her like a lady… all while emasculating their manhood by butting in on a tradition that isn’t harming anyone by being gender specific –

I guess I’m the minority because I still believe that there shouldn’t be GIRLS in BOY SCOUTS (isn’t that why they have the whole GIRL SCOUT thing going?) Women need to stay out of MENS locker rooms (which cracks me up watching these women sports reporters… GMAB!) as MEN need to stay out of the LADIES rooms, MEN need to be able to be MEN (including being able to curse, talk about “broads”, laugh at the world and blow off some steam)

We’re not talking about equal pay for equal work – the right to vote – the right to bear arms – to hold a leadership position – to crash through the glass ceiling, to run for office (of course that one may come in question in the next 12 months…) or whether we need to wear proper foundations… Face it people – emotionally, physiologically, and socially MEN AND WOMEN ARE DIFFERENT – Why do women think they have to be where they don’t belong?

The Elks Club is just another institution whoes walls are being beaten down by women who want to prove a point. And since it’s obvious that’s the case, I say let them in – and call them “COWS” (after all, isn’t that what a female elk is?) I’m sure that will go over well… Let’s see them sue them for being “politically correct” on that number!

    Whatever happened to playing nice…

I just don’t understand why there can’t be some clubs only for men or only for women. These women ruined a truly great club and that’s a shame. If the men at that particular club were smart they should have closed down the club before interviewing those women for potential membership.

the problem: when u read the written summation – it states that since they do charitable work for the community, they have to allow the women to join…so with that in mind, men need to create their own society that just strickly for their needs only and don’t give back to the community…personally i don’t see why that had to be an issue…why not have secluded clubs be contribute back to society w/o the worry about gender…why can’t a men’s organization do that…why can’t a womens organization do that…why do we truly have to have a co-ed organization if it truly does not hurt anyone. it amazes me… now if the services that they provide cost (as in a business), then i can see it being co-ed…

You go girl (or should I not use that un-PC word?). I agree with you 100%. Also, what effect will this have on other organization such as American Legion, Moose, Am Vets (just to name a few). All of them have primary male membership and an auxilliary branch for the women. I do not know much about ELKS, but thought that they too had a Woman’s auxilliary that participates in the charity works of the organization.

I recall that not 15 years ago the Elks had to be sued to let black men into their organization. They offer themselves as a target. Let the women in, they will find out it’s for old, boring men and they will quit immediately.

I, for one have no problem with a gender specific, or even race-specific club, as long as that club does not infringe upon the rights of non-members, or promote itself to be superior over any other gender or race, or does not receive any unfairly discriminatory advantage over another group.

The Elks were ok back then with black waiters and cooks, just not members. I had to attend a meeting once and I thought I was in the Confederacy in 1862.

There’s nothing wrong with preferring the company of your own kind. See the First Amendment, which has not been repealed (yet).

Furthermore, gender refers to masculine/feminine. Sex refers to male/female. Why do you think that this usage has changed? I don’t know, I’m wondering.

Gee Willy…. I don’t know why I used “gender” instead of “sex”. I guess if I used ‘sex-specific clubs’ a casual reader might think that I was referring to a club where men go to have sex, with whatever type of animal (male/female) that club offers. Is that what really goes on behind those doors????

    Tanx fa edjakating me!

Funny, I always thought “sex” and “gender” were fairly interchangeable (at least that’s what they taught me in San Francisco!).

After my 2nd read of your comment, I realized that you were not slamming me. i guess you were really “wondering”. My retort was just to add a bit of humor. My apology for the offense. i guess apologizing disqualifies my membership in the “He-Man Club”.

Count me in, too! I have been reluctant to offer my views on issues like this because I am tired of being accused of being politically incorrect. Call me old school but I noticed the difference between MEN and WOMEN and I don’t believe it to be a fault to appreciate the obvious. Calling this discrimination assumes that “discrimination” is bad. I say “vive la difference!” If you cannot tell the difference (that is, DISCRIMINATE) between the sexes, then you get those awkward moments like women in men’s locker rooms, makes no sense to me. It is refreshing to hear common sense once in a while and AZAZ is spot on!
