Let me start out by saying that I do love animals. I have 2 cats & 1 dog at home – each with their own personalities, etc.

Problem is – in this lawsuit happy environment with people looking for $$ anyway they can, why provide more coverage?

If I lost and animal, I would be devistated. I would not have the urge to go, with my hand out, to my insurance company and say okay, give me that $1,000 you promised. You can’t replace an animal that was really part of your family.

I do like that fact of the injured animal scenario – that would give animal lovers more $$ to help with vet costs and such.

On the other hand, the scum of the earth that is out there now may very well take advantage of this. I worry….

It only pays $500 with a $1000 deductible. Its a rip. And you need to read more carefully.

$500 won’t do much of anything..don’t know where they get their low figures from. Emergency care ranges $2000-$4000, based on an article at petplace.com where a dog hit the windshield on a rearending. $500 is for an SPCA pet too…your purebreds are ranging $1200, and that doesn’t include shots! I love my pets, and I only want to keep them save and healthy…you can’t just replace a pet, they aren’t property, they are living beings and worth more than some people I know.

Mike Jones – take your own advice and re-read the article. There is no deductible nor is there a charge for this “gratis” coverage. This is not an altruisic move by Erie as much as it is an attention getter and free marketing. This is better than the “no coverage” auto policies offered before and I’m surprised at the negative comments thus far. Some people would complain if you hung them with new rope.

Actually, you’re right Dread…I’d much prefer old rope as it may have a chance of breaking and then I could run free. I do appreciate the $500 per animal up to $1,000, but the stipulations IJ reported are a little ridiculous. I do commercial lines, so I don’t see much of the PL auto side.

People, google “FBIC” (Fight Bad Faith Insurance Companies) They say Erie is one of the worst to get insurance. See for yourself. If you do or already have, let’s hope you don’t have a claim. I turned in a claim to them. It took them several months to turn me down. I took them to general sessions and won against an Erie attorney. They of course appealed to further delay paying. I’ve hired an attorney and thank goodness TN. is pro bad faith insurance. Which means, you can ask for a lot more than just your claim. I tried to be nice by going to General Sessions but they figure most will go away. See ya Erie, in front of a Jury.
