A group of 25 lawyers from seven Boston-area firms have formed the Massachusetts Reinsurance Bar Association (MReBA), a group the members say is a first-of-its-kind group focused on reinsurance law.
William N. Erickson of law firm Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi has been appointed president of the group, which meets monthly to discuss developing trends in reinsurance law, recent decisions or legislation and ongoing developments at insurance and reinsurance companies worldwide.
“Our members share ideas and collaborate on innovative techniques to more effectively resolve reinsurance disputes with a cost and a process that makes sense for our clients in today’s environment,” Erickson said.
The group plans to soon launch an electronic newsletter, plan an annual symposium for later this year and assemble a database of experts and reinsurance arbitrators.
Other law firms represented in the group’s membership are Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky & Popeo; Morrison, Mahoney; Prince, Lobel, Glovsky & Tye; Ropes & Gray; Sugarman, Rogers, Barshak & Cohen; and Zelle, Hoffmann, Voelbel, Mason & Gette.
