Amazing that the Democrats that control the NJ Legislature can’t think of anything to help the economy, or the construction trades, but can come up with a mandate that will further depress both, and the market for new homes. Mr. Norcross and his colleagues should leave well enough alone, and put their attention back on their existing ideas, laws and regulations that depress our economy – but apparently bring them campaign contributions.

As a NJ firefighter for decades and as a former fire chief, I think it is a great idea.

As an insurance agent, I can only imagine the ensuing water damage claims from accidently damaged heads, frozen pipes and carelessly drilled holes.

Since NJ requires every residence to have a fire extinguisher, this really seems unnecessary. As an afterthought, are they going to exempt homes with automatic fire suppression systems from the extinguisher requirement?

This looks like it is a sure way to depress the construction of new houses and increase the price of home ownership. The housing costs and taxes already make NJ unaffordable to most middle income people. This will make the situation worse.

The cost of installing a sprinkler system while a new home is being built is less than the cost of wall to wall carpeting or granite kitchen counter tops & that cost will be recouped by the reduction in home owners fire insurance premiums. In the mean time you & your family are protected by a proven fire safety devise. Years go you had 13 minutes to safely egreess from a structureture fire. Today because of the change from dimensional lumber to light weight trusses & the fire load (Furniture) that is manufactured with petrolium produces [remember the burning couch @ Seton Hall?]that fuel the fire you have about 3 minutes to safetly egress the home. By that time the Smoke detector responses to the fire it’s already too late. Image waking up in the middle of the night to a fire with smoke so thick you can’t breath. Your still half a sleep. Now get to your wife, kids & get them out of your burning home that it’s fire is fueled by synthethic gasoline. Sprinklers are worth every penny. It cost $8,000.00 a day for a burn victium in St. Barnabus hospital. Are you telling me you can’t afford $3 or 4,000.00 spread out of a 30 year mortgage that your reimbursed over the years by lowered insurance preium. BTW you’ll get even more money back when you sell it.
