As a person who has gone through Catholic elementary school, Catholic (all boys) high school, and a Catholic university AND SURVIVED, I can tell you that the church teaching is that anything unnatural that gets in the way of consumating (whether a condom, a pill, a coil, etc.) may not be used. Those little fishies MUST be able to swim unimpeded to their intended destination.
And is this based on any historical teaching against contraception? If so, is it historical teaching that was around BEFORE modern contraception was invented? It would seem to me if you can use the rhythm method, you should be able to use other methods as they are developed. After all, what’s the difference? It’s all family planning.
Isn’t it odd Libby that Catholics tend to vote for liberals in elections, but other Liberals like you want to abort babies and prevent conception by any means necessary which goes against Catholic teachings? I wonder how they can support people who are for the pill and killing the unborn. Apparently, some of the Catholics have awakened to big government control and decided to challenge it in court.

Agent – liberals like me do not want to abort babies or prevent conception. We want the right to choose those things if they are right for us. Just like I choose not to own a gun, but do not want to take away your right to.

And Catholics teach tolerance and forgiveness. They know it is not up to them who gets into heaven and who doesn’t. That’s for someone else to decide. Both parties need to be talked to! I’m so sick of people only arguing and voting on these social issues. There’s a lot more to politics, the economy, and our future than these. Pope is right.
Try ONE ISSUE. Their candidate could be right (in their mind) on only one issue and wrong on 50, but that one unfortunately carries all the weight and gets the vote.
Yes, there are more important things going on in this world but when we are going into the new year and a lot of people out there have no idea if they have healtcare or not regardless about contraception it’s a big deal to them.
Always, I agree there are more important issues going on than arguing about the pill or abortion. That seems to be one of the most important issues with Liberals like Libby. We have a failing economy, tremendous debt, imbecilic leadership of our government and the prospect of millions more losing their healthcare in the coming year when Groups start getting cancelled and here they are arguing about whether Catholic employers should have the right to reject certain mandates with Healthcare. Why not just make it optional in plans and not mandatory?
Some of us might remember Earl Butz who was the Republican Secretary of Agriculture under Nixon and Ford. In the 70’s he became infamous (and I think ultimately was forced to resign) for what we call now “polictical incorrectness”. One of the most famous was his opinion on Pope Paul VI’s (who was Italian) banning birth control.
Sebelius’ position on the pope’s birth control views seems to me the same as Earl’s: “He no playa the game, he no maka the rules.”
while I am against mandating that these organizations provide the contraceptive services, I am puzzled as to how these organizations would even HAVE employees that would consider using them?????
Can a hospital refuse to provide medical information, that goes against its dogma, to those seeking medical attention because of the religious ownership of that hospital? Since they have a right to interfere with their employees health benefits, will they also be allowed to interfere with where their pay goes, since this also comes from said religious backed business (and yes… the hospital is a business, not a religious institution).
