    sounds right to me. I have never understood why Uber didn’t think they should be subject to the same rules/regs as cabs. while cab regs might be too restrictive, Uber shouldn’t be allowed to compete unfairly. all should be on the same playing field. if you don’t like the rules, change them, but don’t just ignore them.

      I don’t know either, but I’m going to guess Uber thought “what the heck – let’s try to side-step those rules & regulations and cut expenses to increase our profit margin. If it doesn’t work, then we’ll do the expensive alternative and follow the rules.”

    I think we should call a meeting between the heads of the cab companies and the heads of Philly Uber. Anyone know a good Italian Restaurant in Philadelphia where we can meet?

    The Cab system is an old, tired and costly system. The reason why is because the cabs have had a cozy price setting relationship with politicians and operate like monopoly. Because of this, consumer have had to overpay for Cab services and have not utilized this as much as they would Uber (and related services) because of the high costs. Now comes these ride share services, with slick apps that order a driver with the click of a button, you know exactly where they are, how soon they are coming and the payment is all done via credit card, making this entire system super efficient and cost effect. Bottom line is, they are faster, cheaper, comfortable and efficient. Cab companies who want to put Uber out of business are likely doing so only to keep their monopoly and serve their interest, they can certainly care less about the consumers. As far as “criminal” – I can only guess they think they are stealing their customers and this is “criminal.” Let’s put an end to these controlling monopolies and kudos to Uber, we had to put up with a very bad system for a very long time until these innovators came along.

      So, if an unlicensed agent moves in next door and isn’t required to buy E&O Insurance or pay at least minumum wage I guess that’s OK too.

        Good and quick response InsGuy. That is exactly what is happening. But I also agree that the taxi cab way can be changed and Uber/Lynx are helping the discussion on change.

          Hi mikey says — I big point is that the Taxi cabs must pay huge fees and follow a lot of regulations including insurance. Uber pays little and when they don’t like a rule – they are vocal that they are being picked on when they ignore the rules. Uber knows the rules – they just choose not to follow. When taxi cabs can be as loose as Uber, then the discussions can take place.

    If the buggy whip industry was granted similar injunctive relief against the auto manufacturers we wouldn’t have our automobile insurance industry as we wouldn’t have cars!
