Dwyer Named Rhode Island’s Superintendent of Banking and Insurance

The Rhode Island Insurance Division, part of the Department of Business Regulation, announced that the Insurance Division’s Associate Director Elizabeth Kelleher Dwyer has been named Rhode Island’s superintendent of Banking and Insurance.

Dwyer was chosen and appointed as the new superintendent by the director of the Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation.

Dwyer succeeds Joseph Torti III, who left the superintendent post at the end of 2015. Torti joined the private sector and now serves as vice president of Regulatory Affairs at Fairfax Financial.

Dwyer also previously served as legal counsel to the Rhode Island Insurance Division. She has been a lawyer specializing in insurance regulatory issues in the private and public sectors for 30 years.
