If a person cannot afford to pay a ticket, what are the chances they will bother with other bills like maintenance and liability insurance?

They won’t. Illegals buy cars for cash and don’t register them, have them inspected or buy insurance. They may have gotten them on the Cash for Clunkers programs when the vehicles were not crushed as they were supposed to do.

Simple Fair, I have seen every type of accident known to modern man. I have yet to see an at fault accident by an illegal who had valid insurance of any kind. The accident reports all give tickets for a moving violation like failure to yield, failure to observe traffic devices, no inspection sticker, no proof of ownership among other things. It is also hard for the officer to write up the report since they no speak much English. Call ICE and ICE does nothing and turns them loose. Makes for a good U/M claim everytime. Citizens tend to do somewhat better, but there are some deadbeats out there like Progressive Trolls that challenge the police.

If you are not going to be financially responsible, then you’re not going to be any responsible! All this does is put irresponsible drivers back on the road.
And $300 does not equate to $300,000 for a teen. That’s a bit dramatic!

Jack, some of the worst accidents I have seen as an agent where the other party was at fault when they hit our insured was, no license or Suspended License, no insurance and in some old clunker. Pretty hefty UM claims and yes, those go into our carrier calculation on Loss Ratio.

I’m confused Agent – how can you say there is big voter fraud on the Democrat side when according to the DoJ “out of the 197 million votes cast for federal candidates between 2002 and 2005, only 40 voters were indicted for voter fraud.” That’s a whopping 0.00002% of votes with any red flags.

Is 40 out of 197 million considered a big number to you?

Hey Jack, ever seen the following comment taken from a telegram Harry Truman sent to General MacArthur on political correctness?

Political Correctness is a doctrine, recently fostered by a delusional, illogical minority and promoted by a slick mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end!

That is what is going on in this country currently in this election season.

Nomesaneman is right and Agent is wrong. Had Agent done a simple google search of “Political Correctness is a doctrine, recently fostered by a delusional, illogical minority” and clicked the first link, he’d know Truman didn’t say that.

But hey, why should Agent do any research to get facts correct when he can just keep spewing nonsense?

Nosaneman, the quote came from the Truman library in Independence, Mo on actual telegrams. You should visit there sometime. I have. You might also like the model of the battleship Missouri on display. I have been on the real ship docked in Pearl Harbor. It is very impressive and they have the spot marked where MacArthur accepted the surrender terms from Japan when the war was over.

Even your most often referenced website – Townhall – knows Truman did not say that. Stop spewing nonsense!!!!

            http://www.snopes.com/politics/quotes/trumanpc.asp

Although World War II has been one of the most influential and well-studied events of modern history, evidence of this purported telegraph exchange between Truman and MacArthur was virtually non-existent on the Internet prior to 2015.

The description of political correctness attributed to Truman therein weren’t spread in earnest until April 2015, although iterations of this item had been circulated a few weeks earlier.

By Internet standards, this quip about political correctness is nearly ancient. Versions of it dating to 2006 and 2007 are easily located, attributed at least twice to students of Texas A&M University.

            *************************************************************

It surfaced again in a 2012 Townhall column that lauded it while also describing it as an “old Internet joke”.

Agent lives in a fact-free world. He is proof you can exist in this country with no knowledge about anything. Literally every single thing I have ever seen him state that can be fast checked has been without a doubt wrong. Every “quote” he provides is wrong. It’s truly unbelievable! At some point this idiot has to luck into one correct statement.

This is proof and evidence that listening to right-wing BS is worse than doing nothing. Look up the studies on Fox News viewers being less informed then people who don’t pay attention to things.

In Finland and Germany, the amount of the fine/penalty for a given driving offense is tied to your income. Not surprising that a socialist idea like this would also pop up in a place like Vermont.

    Friends:
At the risk of getting too “tributized” from the mainstream topic of this article, you all piqued my curiosity. My pop was in the army on a troop ship, scheduled to invade the Japanese mainland at the time of the surrender, and so I likely wouldn’t be here if the surrender hadn’t happened when it did (gotta love the bomb). Instead, he became part of the occupying force in Japan and the Philippines.

So I went to the Truman Library website myself (trumanlibrary.org) and searched the archives for “politically correct”, “political correctness” and “mainstream media” among other permutations. Nowhere in there could I find the phrase “mainstream media”, and the only references to “politically correct” or “political correctness” were from oral histories from others taken largely after 1970 (a lot about the post office, though).

I also searched the archive for documents dealing with “Macarthur AND Surrender” for the period 8-1-1945 to 10-01-1945. Though that search came up negative for specific telegrams to/from Macarthur and HST, there is still a ton of cool stuff available, including photos and transcripts from his radio address announcing surrender and news conferences during of the time.

So thanks for the idea of going to the library! I will make it a point to visit at some point, and in the meantime poke around the internets for other presidential archives and historic times.

By the way, I did visit the USS Missouri with my dad many, many years ago, but it was docked in Bremerton, Washington then. I have a photo of him and me near that plaque you mentioned (“Over this spot…”). Thanks for the memory.

“It is my opinion that the only accurate source of information on which to make a proper historical assessment of the performances of past Presidents is in the Presidential files. This is why I think these documents not only ought to be preserved but should be placed and arranged so that they can be used.”
Harry S. Truman, Mr. Citizen, 1960.
