I just don’t understand how people of such ill will enter this business. They used to shoot horse thieves. I’m thinking jail is not so bad any more for what they do to others.

2, I have noticed that since licensing departments started requiring Ethics training to keep a license, there has been more and more unethical and illegal behavior among agents who give the profession a bad name. They really need to put this guy into General Population at hard labor.

This is a shame. Unfortunately, where “white collar” crime is concerned, the government seems to treat the perpetrators with kid gloves. Steal $5k from a bank and get 10 years in a real prison. Steal a person’s life savings through accounting trickery and spend a few months in a country club, if you serve any time at all. Hopefully, they will treat this guy as a real criminal and he’ll forfeit all his personal assets and do some hard time.

What a total scumbag. Below is a 2008 enforcement action I found on the NJDOI website. This POS’ license was suspended in 2008 and revoked in 2010, yet he continued to victimize the elderly. He clearly has no soul.

    Robert I. Berlin, Manalapan, NJ
National Western Life Insurance Company, Austin, TX
Order to Show Cause #E08-46, June 20, 2008; Respondents (Berlin individually or National Western through the acts of Berlin, its agent) are charged with numerous instances of misrepresenting annuity features in selling annuities to senior citizens; “twisting;” (utilizing misrepresentations to induce consumers to act); refusing to rescind annuities despite a pattern of misrepresentations regarding the annuities; altering annuity applications (forgery); National Western’s failure to supervise, investigate and report Berlin’s fraudulent practices; and engaging in unfair and deceptive practices.
