Charlotte N.C-based Transamerica Reinsurance, a division of the Transamerica Group, which is a subsidiary of Holland’s AEGON Insurance Group, announced that it had officially opened its new Head Office for Asia in Hong Kong.
“This head office will provide oversight, management and support for business development and servicing activity throughout the entire Asia-Pacific region,” said the announcement. “Initially, it will focus on developing business in Hong Kong and assisting the existing Transamerica Reinsurance offices in Taipei, Taiwan, Seoul, South Korea, as well as an office soon to be opened in Japan.”
Transamerica Re plans on expanding its activities in “life, annuity, and accident & health reinsurance products.” “The opening of this office reinforces our commitment to the Asia-Pacific region,” stated Wayne Bidelman, president of the International Division of Transamerica Re.
The company named Harald Braun to manage the new office, which has a “culturally diverse” staff comprised of people who “are natives of and experienced in the region.” Braun spent 10 years with Munich Re and has has 11 years of experience in Asia. Most recently he was a member of the executive board, and headed the Hong Kong office of Winterthur Life.
