GE Insurance Solutions announced that Tom Brand has joined the company’s marine team in London as a cargo underwriter.
He has 17 years’ experience in the London market, and in addition to his expertise as an underwriter of the international general cargo account, he also specializes in project cargoes, heavy-lift movements, marine consequential loss, delay in start-up and oil/chemical risks.
“After two months, Tom is already proving to be a valuable addition to the GE Insurance Solutions marine team,” stated Adam Watkins, marine underwriting manager. “Not only is he an extremely knowledgeable underwriter, but he also is well known among the London broking community.”
Brand’s addition to the GE Insurance Solutions’ marine and cargo specie team strengthens “our product breadth, enhances our service capabilities as well as our leadership position in the company market in London,” Watkins added. The other members of the team are Gordon Fry, Cargo Underwriter and Phil Pavis, Specie Underwriter.
Before joining GE Insurance Solutions in September, Brand was a cargo underwriter for Berkshire Hathaway’s business at Lloyd’s, known as Marlborough Syndicate 1861. He was formerly deputy cargo underwriter for Hiscox plc, the Lloyd’s underwriting agent for Syndicate 33 and a yacht underwriter for Prudential U.K. in London.
