Markel International has appointed Simon Wilson to the role of director, international development. He joins Markel International from Lloyd’s. For the last three years, he was Lloyd’s general representative in Singapore and managing director of Lloyd’s Asia.
Wilson oversaw the expansion of Lloyd’s in Singapore, which now totals 17 syndicates.
His responsibilities at Markel International will include project work and international business development. He will be based in London, “although initially he will be seconded to Markel International’s Singapore office,” said the announcement.
Prior to joining Lloyd’s Asia, Wilson managed international strategy and license development for Lloyd’s Worldwide Markets. He was responsible for the international research capability, and was also involved in the establishment of Lloyd’s China. Before joining Lloyd’s, Wilson was a management consultant in the specialist financial services group at Deloitte Consulting.
