Extraction teams do not show up unless all crew members are safe and secure in their safe room. They will call in for help and after confirming that all crew are accounted for then a navy will board the ship and take out the pirates. Otherwise another ship will come alongside the shipping vessel but they will not board because they can’t risk the hostages being killed.
With so many people out of work who could be trained to operate weapons I wonder why it is not possible to provide room and board on ship and a bounty for pirates. Let’s call it 3 hots, a cot and a pop
With so many IT geeks out of work, ‘someone’ cannot hack their systems and ‘repatriate’ all their ill-botten gooty?
The article name should have been “Pirates Evolving Into Lawyers”
Pretty soon they’ll be slicking back their hair and buying expensive suits.
And drinkin’ a pina colada at Trader Vics. There hair’d be perfect…
Does it get an weider than this? Afican Pirates now have their own letter head and standard demand letter. What next will they send out tweets or have their own facebook page?
I vote for Tweets.
I think we need to let the Russia Navy and the India Navy handle all these problems and pay them accordingly. They simply kill all the pirates when they try to take over a ship and then sink the pirate’s mother ship (with everyone on board). No muss or fuss, trials, etc. God forbid that the USA should do this. They would have to get 49 different approvals, including that of the White House!! For what??
DC will never approve such drastic action. This is trickle-down economics at the extreme.
Come November, “Help’s on the way”. At least that’s what I’m counting on.
Hopefully the return letterhead includes the letters “F” & “Y”.
Seems like if they looked on Craigslist, they could have found a better copywriter.
At least one of the pirates has a sense of humor, right?
As much as it’d be both gratifying and fun for our navy or anyone elses to blast a couple of the mother ships out of the water, it may not end up solving the problem. I’ve read where the pirates who actually do the deal are just hired stooges and the real money and masterminds are pulling the strings from safety on shore-or even if its speculated, one of the al-Queda splinter groups.
So maybe instead of playing whack a mole, we need to capture a few more crews and get them to talk about who is in charge-Gitmo has its uses, right and then use a few drones on those gomers and take care of the problem that way.
And after we’ve cut the head off, rescue the crews and boats, mine the harbor and get out fo dodge.
If they blast a bunch more mother ships out of the water, they may be out of employees to do the dirty work. Then where will they be?
I doubt anyone hijacked enjoys the experience, as it is no different than someone getting mugged and kidnapped alone at night by an unknown thug holding a gun and threatening death. How frightening that it can be so coordinated, and apparently somewhat tolerated (where is the outrage?)… Definitely not a funny situation
The USA crushed the Barbary Coast pirates many years ago. Our current “leaders” have no courage. Perhaps the November elections will bring about positive change and a willingness to confront evil wherever it is found.
This is an economic issue. Indonesia and Somalia have been suffering from civil wars and no government. They remain Leaderless and their citizens have little means to earn a living. Desperate people do desperate things to eat. The pirates are shoeless and hungry – organized crime (Yes, Al Quaeda and gangs) provide the speedboats & high powered weapons and the illiterate pirates (Not “Jamal”) get a pair of sandals and a meal. I’m not sympathetic to their plan of action but I think you are mistaken if you believe changing leaders in the USA will have any effect. Stabilizing Somalia & Indonesia’s economy will.
