Late on Thursday, October 11, the sixteenth named storm of the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season was declared – Tropical Storm Patty.
As of Friday, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), the center of Patty was located in the Caribbean Sea, 315 miles east of Nassau in The Bahamas, and is currently stationary. At this time, maximum sustained winds of 46 mph were recorded, equating to a tropical storm on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.
Catastrophe modeling firm RMS said that tropical storm force winds are present on the eastern side of the system, extending outwards to 70 miles from the center of the system. Patty is forecast by the NHC to track west-southwest over The Bahamas in the next 48 hours, weakening to a tropical depression before tracking over the Bahamian Islands towards Cuba. At this time there are no coastal watches or warning in effect.
RMS said it is continuing to monitor this storm.
