David Griffiths, who has held several top sports insurance broking and production roles in a career spanning 25 years has joined Miller’s sports and entertainment team to further boost its growth plans.

Griffiths began his insurance career in 1991 with Johnson & Higgins (subsequently Marsh) where he built-up experience in a range of classes before moving to specialise in sports from 1997, becoming head of the Sport, Leisure and Entertainment Practise at Marsh. He moved to Kerry London in 2008 as managing director of its Sport and Leisure team. His most recent position before joining Miller was head of Sport (UK) at W&P Longreach (subsequently Integro) which he joined in 2012. He became an associate of the Institute of Risk Management in 1995.

Griffiths has extensive knowledge of sports risk management and transfer, said London-based Miller in a statement. “His experience primarily covers direct placements for sports associations and commercial organizations but he has also handled business on behalf of rights holders, governing bodies and intermediaries.”

He designs and places tailored insurance programs on behalf of insureds involved in a range of sports including golf, rugby and tennis as well as event managers and other commercial organizations, the broker said, noting that he also has a broad class experience in such areas as liability, contingency, personal accident, financial lines and property.

“We are delighted with the progress our sports and entertainment offering has made in the last 18 months and having a respected market figure like David on board boosts our formidable growth potential,” commented James Hands – head of Sport and Entertainment.

Griffiths will work with James Hands and the rest of Miller’s sports and entertainment insurance broking team in London, the company added.
