Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance Seeking Project XL Participants

October 28, 2002

Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance has issued a bulletin reminding the state’s high school students to begin planning for their participation in the company’s annual “Project XL (Excel)” creative arts competition.

This year’s topic is “Identity-What Makes You Stand Out?” The project encourages Indiana high school students to express themselves through one of six categories: writing, music, 2-dimensional art, 3-dimensional art, video or performance, and is structured to give the students an opportunity to develop skills that will impact their future.

This marks the 14th year that Farm Bureau has sponsored the contest. Winners receive awards over $40,000 in college scholarships, $2000 each for the six first-place winners, $1,500 to six second-place contestants and $1,000 to six third-place entrants.

“An additional $1,000 will be awarded to the student entry considered ‘Best of Show’,” said the announcement. It also awards $2,000 in cash to the Indiana high school with the highest total number of entries advancing to the state finals, which are scheduled to be held on Saturday, March 22 at the Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center on the campus of the University of Indianapolis.

Last year, nearly 5,000 students from 219 high schools entered the competition. “We continue to be delighted with the statewide response we receive from educators and students,” stated Patty Poehler, Senior VP of Marketing for Farm Bureau Insurance. “The program is definitely fulfilling the purposes for which it was created.”

“Students wanting to learn more about the rules and how to enter the competition should contact their high school’s administrative office. Additional details and entry information also is available from Pam Walker at 800-866-1160 Extension 7748. Project XL also maintains a website at www.infarmbureau.com . Entries may be submitted from January 20th through the 24th at any local Farm Bureau Insurance office across the state of Indiana,” said the bulletin.
