Ohio-based Nationwide Insurance reported that it expects to receive more than 11,000 claims from the recent winter storms in North Carolina and South Carolina, and estimates insured policyholder losses eventually could be more than $27 million.
The announcement indicated that “Most storm claims reported to Nationwide are for structural damages and food spoilage. Nationwide expects to receive additional claims for damages caused by ice dams and frozen pipes.”
“We have activated Nationwide’s National Catastrophe Team and have assigned claim representatives to the areas hardest hit by the storm,” stated Kevin George, Nationwide’s director of catastrophe claims operations. “Our claims force is working seven-days-a-week and we hope to have all claims closed by the end of the year,” he added.
