Ohio Insurance Director Ann Womer Benjamin was elected secretary of the Midwestern Zone section of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) during its winter meeting in Chicago.
Womer Benjamin was elected to the leadership position by her peers in the Midwestern Zone, which is comprised of insurance commissioners from Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Wisconsin. As a regional officer she will also serve on the Executive Committee of the NAIC, able to influence policy development at the national level.
The Midwestern Zone meets quarterly to discuss insurance issues that impact member states and to develop regulatory approaches to address these issues. The group also shares regulatory best practices with other NAIC member states.
Womer Benjamin was also appointed chairman of the NAIC/Industry Liaison Committee and vice chair of the Government Affairs Task Force. The Industry Liaison Committee provides a forum in which the industry can voice its issues and concerns, and the Government Affairs Task Force deals with federal insurance issues.
