Ohio will receive $541,000 as part of a health insurer’s $20 million settlement of allegations that it misled consumers and mishandled claims.
State Department of Insurance Director Mary Jo Hudson said Friday, August 15, that the agreement with Texas-based HealthMarkets Inc. addresses serious violations of consumer protection laws.
It resolves an investigation that insurance regulators in Ohio and 28 other states launched in 2005 because of consumer complaints.
The settlement includes HealthMarkets and subsidiaries MEGA Life and Health Insurance Co., Mid-West National Life Insurance Co. and The Chesapeake Life Insurance Co.
