The owner of a south-central Kansas insurance agency has announced plans to kick off a campaign for insurance commissioner.
David Powell of David J. Powell & Associates LLC in El Dorado is seeking the Republican nomination in the August 2010 primary.
He plans to start June 15 with an announcement in Overland Park and then go to Topeka to file the necessary paperwork with the secretary of state’s office and have a news conference. He expects to end his day in Wichita.
The next day, Powell plans stops in Dodge City, Hays, Great Bend and Salina.
Powell also hosts a radio show, Your Kansas Insurance with David J. Powell, to answer consumers’ insurance questions, according to the Web site, www.yourkansasinsurance.com.
Powell sought the GOP nomination in 2002 but lost to Sandy Praeger, who was elected that November.
Insurance department spokesman Bob Hanson said Praeger is expected to seek a third term.
