Authorities say a construction worker was killed in an eastern Missouri freeway work zone when a loaded asphalt truck backed over him.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol did not immediately identify the the man killed at the scene of the accident about 10:45 a.m. Monday on Interstate 55 near Ste. Genevieve.
The highway patrol’s Sgt. Al Nothum says the worker was picking up a highway sign and crossed the interstate’s southbound lanes when the dump truck ran over him.
Nothum says it appears to be an accident, and that he’s doubtful criminal charges will be pursued against the driver.
