What a shame… how was this allowed to continue for so long, especially after an investigation in 2003? Those individuals worked all day in poor conditions, just to come home to live in an unacceptable building – they deserve more than $1.7 million.

The real crime is the law that limits corporate liability to a two year period prior to violations being reported. Corporate backed lobbyists changed state laws in the past 20 years to protect their exposure and individuals are left with partial justice. This company took advantage of the vulnerable for nearly 40 years and yet are only held accountable for 2 year’s worth of cheating–this is less than 5% of the time they were committing the crime. The company was busted in 2003, but continued to rob its vulnerable employees of their fair wages but the Iowa attorney general decides not to press criminal charges–why not? Another example of government soft-glove treatment to unethical businesses.
