Detroit is pretty much a national disgrace as a city. They have run off their tax base with taxation, mismanagement and outright fraud by prior administrations. Bing is a good man but in a no win situation. One of the female council members actually wanted Obama to bail out the city because they voted 75% to 25% for him in the election. She wants some of that bacon for the city. What a joke.

Detroit’s a cesspool. Always has been. Sorry, Sarge.

A succession of Democratic mayors, council for the past 30+ years have led to the current ruin. They are like a third world city in Detroit proper. Half the population of 10 years ago, corruption rampant. Bing has no chance to resurrect this city. What a shame!

Detroit is the proverbial Canary in a Coal Mine. IL/CA/NY and other cities/states dominated by Democrats are just around the corner.

A good part of the blame for why many cities have disruption of services and extreme financial problems lie with public sector unions. They negotiate sweetheart deals with huge benefits, early retirement etc. I saw an interview with the mayor & Police Chief of Camden, NJ this morning and they are having to lay off their entire police force of union officers and rehire with non-union officers. The cost was just too great and there is no money for all these benefits the unions want. Since the article was on Detroit, the state of Michigan is going right to work which makes union membership optional. Good for them. Michigan is not going to attract business with a closed union shop up there. Unions may not like it, but they have created the problem for themselves.
