“Supporters of the legislation question whether fingerprinting would deter potential licensees from applying for fear of being identified and deported.”

If they are illegal, they SHOULD be deported!!

Does anyone in any state considering allowing illegal aliens the right to have drivers licences realize they are assisting in the commission of a crime? That in itself is a crime!

Why not use a license issued to an illegal immigrant to track them down and send them “home”? If the individual is an illegal immigrant, they should not be eligible for a license anyway. Visitors and legal immigrants: Welcome!

When my kids were first licensed, it was necessary to produce an original birth certificate, and a social security card and I think a parents’ affidavit of some kind. Would that documentation be available for immigrants, legal and otherwise? It isn’t that I think they should never get a license, but how much proof of identity can be safely dispensed with?

I am a naturalized immigrant from England. I came here with my parents when I was 4, so I grew up here. Legal immigrants can have social security cards as I have one and I have paid taxes every year. I have a copy of my birth certificate, so these things are possible for LEGAL immigrants to have and obtain. Obtaining a driver’s license was easy. I think I also had to show my passport and/or alien card as well. No big deal. PS I finally became a US citizen in 2008 and voted in my first election. And no, I didn’t vote for the annoited one and didn’t vote for him this time around either.

Legal Immigrant, congratulations on becoming a U.S. citizen! You are in fact contributing more to this country than some who were born here.

Legal Immigrant – thank you for being here legally. I am happy that you became (and now are) a U.S. citizen. I will continue to welcome with open arms all those who make the effort to immigrate to this country legally. I also welcome with open arms any and all state and/or federal government actions that assist with the location and immediate deportation of people and their families that are not here legally. I do not support any agenda that offers drivers licenses or any other service other than deportation to anyone who is considered an illeagal immigrant.

      Susie,

If it was used for that, I’d agree with you. Unfortunately under this administration they already sued AZ, and lost, trying to protect illegal immigrants. They won’t use this to deport them, but instead getting them to be legal under the democratic realm, and then they will have a vote for life. It’s all politics, nothing more, nothing less.

When I moved back to Michigan a few years ago, from Ohio I had to hand over my drivers license, passport and the sales contract on the home I purchased to prove I was a resident of the State of Michigan! I guess deadbeat illegals get special preference in Illinois. Maybe it is the Democraps buying votes, again.

Illegal Aliens means that they are in ths country illegally and have not only knowingly violated the law but but scoffed at the fact that the have done something wrong. Try the same thing in Mexico. They should be arrested and deported.

“The licenses couldn’t be used to buy a firearm, register to vote or board a plane, and law enforcement officials wouldn’t be allowed to use them to target illegal immigrants for deportation.” Let’s see how well this works out.

I am dumbfounded that illegal immigrants are now celebrated and given benefits like crazy. The cost to citizens is enormous; when is someone going to care about us?
They talk “immigration reform.” How about this: you build a military base on the border to patrol and enforce entry and LEGAL immigrants are honored and celebrated. Sick of this nonsense!!!!!!
Where else do you get a grand welcome if you enter the country illegally?
